This is my drawing of The Crimson Ghost, the lead bad-guy of the 1945 Republic Serial Film of the same name. I always loved the girl in that movie, Linda Sterling, and thought she needed to have less clothing. So this is my gratuitous fantasy of a scene that should have been in the movie but wasn't.
First off this is a pretty dope graphic it really give the Crimson Ghost a life of its own. I would draw a parallel to The Misfits, but I hate how in a way they've over shadowed the movie itself which was really unique in its own right. I really wish the Crimson Ghost story would be revisited considering that many new horror movies today just don't compare to the classics. Moreover I wish more people actually knew about the Crimson Ghost serials. BTW my avatar can, I suppose be seen as an evolution of the Crimson Ghost. Again though great interpretation of the Crimson Ghost.
Thank you for your wonderful, informed opinion on the subject! ...Most of the comments I get on this illustration are usually just some form of "I love the Misfits!" ...from people who have no idea that The Crimson Ghost was actually a character from a movie - not a mascot created by the Misfits. I have collected a lot of old 1930's - 1940's action adventure Serial Films - and I must say The Crimson Ghost was the first one I ever saw and still is my number one favorite. I have often thought about how fun it would be to write and draw a full-length Crimson Ghost comic book. I just love all the characters in it. All that said - I love the Misfits, myself, too... But it makes me sad that people aren't more informed on entertainment history, so that credit could be given, where credit is due.
Your very welcome. Yea I have noticed that people automatically think of The Misfits when they see the crimson ghost. Its bit annoying, but oh well, people just need to do more research I guess. For a lot of those classic 30-40s serials its a shame that they often go unnoticed. The stories and acting were all their own. I particularly am fond of the Creature From the Black Lagoon. A comic continuing the Crimson Ghost story would be interesting. I've seen how many movies/tv shows have been continued through comics. It would be a pretty great idea, a new life for the almost forgotten Crimson Ghost. I myself would be interested to see what would become of such an idea.
I would not. The original is just fine, as-is. A remake would almost certainly be done modern style, would almost certainly miss the spirit of the original, and would almost certainly suck.
